GEO is a non-profit organization created in 1999 by share plan professionals from around the world with a common interest - providing a networking opportunity for everyone around the world who works with employee share plans. GEO is run by full time staff and countless volunteers. Membership Analysis One of the reasons the membership application and profile contain so many questions is that the founders of GEO wanted to have the ability to analyze information about our members and their companies and stock plans. This information will NOT contain any information about any individual company, but rather begin to provide "best practice" and common information helpful to everyone working in the stock plan community. Being a member of GEO means being a member of a community, not a corporate entity. We do not sell information about our members to any other organization, nor do we provide information submitted on this site to anyone other than other GEO members. Members who do not treat the information provided on this site with the same respect and privacy, will no longer be part of this community. If you haven’t done so already, take a moment and review your profile. Thank you. Profile of GEO Membership Many people ask about the make-up of GEO members. Members can search through an on-line directory and find others in countries around the world. We recently looked at our membership and in the almost 7 years since GEO launched its website, we have almost surpassed our target membership goal. Each member is asked, upon completion of the membership application to select a member category. The choices include: a Practitioner (someone working within a company that offers a stock plan), a Service Provider (someone who offers services to one or more companies that offer stock plans), an Academic (someone who works for a Research or Education institution) or a Government official. We are pleased to report that our membership breakdown shows the wide variety of members: 33% of our members are Practitioners/Issuers, 65% are Advisors & Service Providers, 1% are Academics and 1% are Government representatives. In addition, in looking at our global representation, 37% of our members are from outside the US. When taking the UK and US together as a group, 20% of our members come from other countries. Regionally we have 31% of our members in Europe, 3% in Asia and the Middle East, 65% in North and South America and less than 1% in Africa.
