Plenary Sessions
11th Annual GEO Conference
14 - 16 April 2010

Session P.1
The Changing Social Contract between Employer and Employee

Jane Moyer, Head of Human Resources - Starbucks Canada

Since the global recession began in 2008, the relationship between employers and employees is shifting in unexpected ways. Employees and candidates are more transparency and information from employers and tend to be more risk averse in terms of pay packages. 'Baby boomers', especially in the US, are not retiring in ways first thought due to continuing market uncertainty. Elsewhere, the rise of global brands and erosion of traditional social contracts contribute to greater employee mobility and awareness.

Join Jane in our opening session as she winds her way through the evolving social contract and discusses the impact that evolution may have on the basic nature of the relationship between employer and employee.

Session P.2
The Future of Employee Share Plan Participation

Joseph Blasi, Ph.D., Professor - Rutgers University
Pierre Kremp, Beyster Graduate Fellow - Princeton University

The foundation upon which global equity compensation programs are based is far from stable. A variety of dynamic factors, including historical and current economic conditions, shifting employee demographics and changing corporate priorities, conspire to impact the desired outcomes of the best and most experienced equity plan professionals.

In this presentation, Dr. Joseph Blasi, professor at Rutgers University's School of Management and Labor Relations and co-author of a new book by the University of Chicago Press "Shared Capitalism at Work" and co-head of the Beyster Fellowship Program at Rutgers, and Pierre Kremp, a Beyster Graduate Fellow and doctoral candidate at Princeton University, will explore the impact of these external factors on employee share plans and help identify an effective course of action for future generations of equity program professionals.

Session P.3
Reflections on Risk: Perspectives from the Big-Four

Michael Bussa, Partner - Ernst & Young
William Dunn, Partner - PricewaterhouseCoopers
Ed Gibbons, Principal - KPMG
Sean Trotman, Principal - Deloitte Tax

Faced with increasing scrutiny on corporate governance in all corners of the globe, and a shrinking internal team to manage the strategic and tactical compliance activities, multinational employers are struggling to manage the monetary and non-monetary risks associated with designing and operating equity compensation programs globally.

For the first time, four senior executives from the Big-Four Accounting Firms will participate in a roundtable discussion, moderated by Carine Schneider, Chair of GEO's Board of Directors, about the current issues, challenges and opportunities their firms are seeing while solving the global risk management challenge for their clients.
