PAST CHAPTER EVENTS

Highlights from 22 January 2020

IPSA/GEO Next Gen Network Inaugural Social

Attendees joined this exciting inaugural event to view the award-winning “We the Owners” film, network with fellow next gen professionals and hear about the ground breaking work being accomplished by the next generation of share plan professionals.

ABOUT THE FILM
We the Owners
What does it mean to be an owner? In We the Owners, employee owners from New Belgium Brewing, Namasté Solar and DPR Construction answer this important question.

Successfully thriving in the global economy of the 21st century and beyond will require new business models and strategies to enable the American Dream of opportunity and economic prosperity. One model that is an alternative is the employee-ownership model (e.g. ESOP, stock/stock options, cooperatives). We the Owners captures stories from the founders and employees from New Belgium Brewing, Namasté Solar, and DPR Construction, sharing the worker's perspectives on shared ownership structures, highly empowering corporate cultures, linked reward and risk incentives, and human-capital innovation models. The film follows as decisions are made on founding the company, expansion, succession, recruitment, and layoffs.

As the stories in the film show, employee ownership comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. But the core message from all of these companies rings out loud and clear: the power of the voice, vote and shared ownership of employees cannot, and should not, be taken for granted.

Employee Share Ownership Day Ireland 2017

IPSA, in collaboration with the Global Equity Organisation (GEO), Proshare UK and Google, was delighted to present the very first Employee Share Ownership Day in Ireland!

The day kicked off in Google EMEA HQ on Barrow Street in Dublin on 22nd June @ 9:30am, and showcased a series of talks and workshops on employee ownership and employee financial participation. This was a great opportunity to focus on the latest issues in the world of employee incentives and ownership, featuring tailored seminars and workshops, and numerous networking opportunities. Attendance to this morning event was open to all and was free for IPSA members. A networking lunch @ 1:00pm in Google concluded this part of the day.

For those interested, we also provided a private guided tour of the Guinness Storehouse that afternoon. Again this was free for IPSA members.

The day culminated in the IPSA Awards & Black Tie Dinner where we recognised the specific achievements of colleagues and friends in the industry.

GEO Dublin Chapter Meeting

The Dublin Chapter hosted a successful seminar on 21 September at the offices of A&L Goodbody on the topic "Employee Financial Participation – Beyond These Borders". GEO joined forces with the Irish ProShare Association, a local non-profit Irish member organisation that is involved in the promotion of employee financial participation and employee ownership in businesses to host the seminar, and almost 40 attendees enjoyed presentations by speakers from Intel and from the EU agency Eurofound. GEO's Executive Director Danyle Anderson travelled from the USA to attend and give a short presentation on GEO. Attendees from a wide range of organisations attended including large Irish listed companies, 100% employee owned companies, startups and the Irish government Department for Jobs Enterprise and Innovation, as well as a number of Irish legal, tax and HR advisors.

The Eurofound slides are available here and if any GEO members are interested in connecting with the Dublin Chapter, or putting any of their Irish based colleagues in touch with the Dublin Chapter, please contact the GEO team or Rosaleen Boyle of A&L Goodbody, the Dublin Chapter co-ordinator.

TOPIC
The role of Employee Ownership in economic development
GEO Ireland in partnership with Irish ProShare Association

The topic of this event is employee enterprise ownership experiences in Ireland and other EU Member States and the role of employee ownership in contributing to economic recovery and development.

Both GEO and IPSA strongly believe that forms of employee financial participation and employee share incentive plans can have a positive impact on business performance through better employee relations and staff motivation, greater competitiveness and productivity, greater flexibility in the organisation of work and on employment levels.

Presented by:
Mrs Stavroula Demetriades, Senior Programme Manager Workplace Developments
