Are your employees engaged in your education efforts and do they understand and appreciate their equity benefits? Are employees satisfied overall with your equity plans? Do your equity benefits have a positive impact on attracting talent to the company and on retention and reward efforts? Do your business leaders understand the role your team plays in the advance of business goals? Do you know what’s working well and what’s not? TOPICS Corporate Financial Wellness – Advocating for Workplace Efficiency and Equity Award Planning Each year companies grant more than $110 billion in equity to their employees. Yet employers continue to question if their employees understand how their equity works and the power it possesses when thought of in the context of one's overall financial picture. Now compound that with employee stress about paying off college debt, saving for retirement, and covering healthcare costs. In this session we will examine how financial wellness, when delivered in conjunction with equity plans, has a significant impact on employee retention and satisfaction with compensation.
We will also focus on how issuers can increase employee engagement with equity programs though digital tools and partners. Presented by: Nupur Bahal, Executive Director – Head of Corporate Financial Wellness, UBS
Cybersecurity Update Understand how the cyber threat landscape, actors and regulatory impacts drive the need for additional controls and tracking. Preparing your applications, IT environment, file transfers that you house and transfer employee or client data is important. It continues to require focus and resources. Having a plan and approach is important and understanding the questions you should be asking as an equity administrator or compensation professional is key to helping protect employee information and manage your vendors. TOPICS EU Compliance Check-Up: Ensuring Your Company is Ready for the New Regulations With about half of participants outside the US residing in the European Union, the EU is a hot spot for equity compensation. With the EU Directive coming into force in January 2018, and the new EU General Data Protection Regulations (“GDPR”) coming into force on 18th May 2018, multinational companies should be cautious of more stringent penalties for non-compliance. Despite the handy prospectus directive to harmonize requirements, the densely packed 28 countries of the EU require near constant monitoring to maintain equity plan compliance. This session journeys through the EU to keep you up-to-date on all current and pending requirements. Presented by: Lindsay Minnis, Partner, Baker McKenzie Brian Wydajewski, Partner, Baker McKenzie
State to State Mobility – Trends & Traps Join us for this session which will cover what companies are doing to address this state to state mobility. We will also cover some war stories on the kinds of things the taxing authorities are looking for when they come to audit companies during a payroll audit. We will specifically focus on the northeast states but will touch on some other states where we see tax authorities focusing on mobile employees. Presented by: John Montgomery, Partner, KPMG Cristina Schrob, Partner, PwC
GEO's New York Area Chapter Meeting and Holiday Celebration
TOPICS Session #1: Video Next Gen: Interactive Video and The Gamification of Employee Education Video is still new and fresh to equity plan education and is already feeling like a .45 in music-streaming land. Interactive video is already rapidly impacting video delivery concepts and changing how individuals digest information. We’ll explore in depth interactive capabilities - from video-delivered surveys, 'choose your own adventure,' to video clustering, games and more, what does the future truly hold for employee education? To prove the points further, this session will be supported solely by interactive video content and the audience can help steer the session agenda. This session will explore the cool and complicated, as well as, the creepy uneasiness of the massive data that is being generated because everyone just loves to click. Presented by: John Hammond, Associate Partner, Aon Equity Services
Session #2: CEO Pay Ratio: Key Tips for Year-end Planning CEO pay ratio is the rule we love to hate. In this first year, in which many expected (or hoped) the SEC or Congress would repeal or delay the rule, many firms have had to act quickly to create their strategy to achieve compliance in a short timeframe. As the rules have evolved through SEC guidance, we have seen added flexibility, which, paradoxically, creates many new questions. In this segment, we will discuss some strategies for developing the CEO pay ratio, with a focus on developing common market practices. Then, we will dive into the all-important question about how to communicate your CEO pay ratio, to whom, when, and how. Presented by: Kevin Wells, Director, Aon Hewitt

TOPICS Key Takeaways From Equity Compensation Research Don't miss the opportunity to hear Dr. Joseph Blasi, a distinguished professor and sociologist at the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University, discuss equity compensation as viewed through academic research. Dr. Blasi will share research results around pay and motivation in the workforce. Learn what academia will tell us are some best practices you can employ as an equity compensation professional to get the most out of your equity plan for both your company and your participants? Presented by: Dr. Joseph Blasi, Rutgers
Global Payroll: Getting it Right & Upcoming Payroll-Related Changes Industry experts at Deloitte discuss employment tax and global payroll related updates from around the world. Presented by: Megan Cuccia, Deloitte Tax LLP Peter Simeonidis, Deloitte
TOPIC Session #1 - Time to get Moving: International Updates and What you Need to Know for 2017 Attendees got a jump on the 2017 grant season as the New Year began. A number of tax and regulatory changes impacting the grant of global equity awards have taken effect for 2017 and additional changes are expected. This session helped attendees to gain insight and perspective on the most important changes impacting the grant of equity awards by multinational companies.
This session covered:
Recent and pending tax and legal changes impacting stock awards in various countries
Current market practices and anticipated trends for 2017
Best practices, cost-savings opportunities and recommendations for global companies granting awards around the world
Presented by: June Anne Burke, Partner, Baker & McKenzie
CPE: Field of Study: Business Law Level: I, II, III
Session #2 - Hold. Flip. Split: Acrobatics of Employee Ownership - Using Data & Analytics to Tell the Story What employees do with vested RSUs has long been a mystery to most companies. When shares hit the employee account, plan sponsor visibility is lost. And, while ESPP share selling behavior has been seen through disposition reporting, companies have very little insight into how selling behavior is linked to plan type and demographic variances. In this session, Emily Cervino of Fidelity Stock Plan Services uncovers a host of new views into these previously unknown areas, including how the value of the payout impacts behavior, what ESPP discount levels create more employee holders, what impact age has, if tenure and location make a difference, and how Section 16 behavior varies. And, mixing and matching of all data areas creates a virtual menu of choices on how to assess employee selling behavior. Presented by: Emily Cervino, Vice President, Fidelity Investments
CPE: Field of Study: Personnel/HR Level: I, II, III
TOPIC Efficient Equity Administration: We Are All Data Warriors! Everyone does it – we are all data warriors. Stock Plan administration and especially administration for global plans is all about collecting and manipulating data. Upon examination, most, if not all, administration teams use some type of manual processes in their day to day work. We all have those reports that we are cutting, pasting, reformatting, adding formulas, pivot tables, etc. This manual data manipulation is lost productivity, increased costs and increased risk. How can we get the job done with efficiencies and lower costs? One easy way is through automation. Many think "expensive" when they hear automation, but it doesn't have to be that way. This session will give real life examples of each panelist’s experiences, and provide examples of simple tips that attendees can put into action on their own without having to hire a consultant. Since budgets for automation are often non-existent, the panelists will also discuss the "case" they can make to management to secure the budget needed for their automation projects. Presented by: Howard Runyon, CompIntelligence Marsha Tepper, CEP, Morgan Stanley Christine Triolo, PSEG
