Tom is currently Policy Officer for Corporate Governance and Company Law at DG Internal Market of the European Commission. Tom joined the Commission as an official in 2011, after having worked at the Court of Justice of the European Union as a legal secretary (référendaire). Prior to joining the EU institutions, Tom was a lawyer admitted to the bars of New York and Brussels and specialised in competition/antitrust law. He practiced with Linklaters and with Freshfields.

Tom holds master degrees of INSEAD (business administration), Columbia Law School (law; as a Fulbright Scholar and a BAEF Fellow), the College of Europe (law) and the K.U. Leuven (law and philosophy).

At home, Tom speaks German with his lovely wife Tania and Dutch with his children Sebastian and Hannah (who speak French to each other). He recently started with piano lessons and enjoys tennis, running and practicing Wing Tsun.
