CIPD Elects Two New Vice Presidents 04 December 2012

Two senior members of the HR profession have today been elected to positions as Vice Presidents of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).  The elections to the voluntary roles took place at the CIPD’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in London.

Janet Cooper, FCIPD, part of the professional services firm Tapestry, has been elected as Vice-President, Performance & Reward. Deborah Baker, FCIPD, Director of People at Sky, was elected as Vice-President, Organisation, Resourcing & Talent Planning. Both take up their posts for a period of two years.

Cooper has been a member of the CIPD VP Reward Panel for the last two years, and has already lent her support to the development of the CIPD’s research and public policy agenda.  She’s an acknowledged expert on employee share plans and executive pay and has advised Governments on this issue.

Baker has been instrumental in transforming Sky’s approach to its talent across the breadth and depth of the organisation. She has also worked closely with the chief executive to embed a culture of individual responsibility for development right through the company.

Gill Rider, CIPD President, comments: “The CIPD’s Vice-Presidents volunteer their professional knowledge, experience and leadership to support the Institute’s research and policy agenda.  Their contribution is invaluable, strengthening our content and strategic direction to ensure we can serve the future needs of the profession.  They also play an important ambassadorial role, bringing their own perspectives and those of their senior peers into all that we do, and helping us to engage the profession as we conduct our work and share its outcomes in a way that supports thought leadership and practice. Both Janet and Deborah bring a wealth of experience which will help us live up to the CIPD’s renewed purpose, articulated by Peter Cheese at the Annual Conference last month – to champion better work and working lives.”
