Emily Van Hoorickx Addresses Barron’s Top Women Advisors Summit

Finding your Niche Market—or Not: To Specialize or Generalize

Emily Van Hoorickx of UBS Financial Services’ Silicon Valley Investment Group (SVIG) spoke at this year’s Top Women Advisors Summit, on December 6 in Palm Beach, FL. The conference brought together “The Top 100 Women Financial Advisors” recognized in Barron’s June 3rd, 2013 issue. She outlined the steps that should be taken before deciding to specialize or generalize, as well as the efficiencies associated with focusing on a niche market, to the nearly 500 attendees representing an elite level of professionals selected by their firms.

“The key to growing and maintaining a successful niche practice is to identify areas where your skill set and background will allow you to deliver thoughtful, valuable solutions. Focusing on a complicated niche helps your reputation to spread through your target market,” said Van Hoorickx. “My business plan, which included obtaining both the Certified Equity Professional (CEP) and Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP®) designations, has given me a real edge over much of my competition in equity compensation.”

A 30-year plus veteran of UBS, Emily has been consistently recognized by Barron’s as one of America’s Top Financial Advisors (since 2008). Emily and her team are supported by over 200 dedicated employees within UBS Equity Plan Advisory Services (EPAS), a group focused on providing advice and executing on the advice they deliver to both corporate clients and their employee participants.
